Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo, has said that they tried their possible best, but it wasn’t to be, as the team were eliminated from the 2014 World Cup.

Ronaldo scored the winner as they beat Ghana 2-1 at the National Stadium in Brasilia, but it was not enough as Germany and USA qualified ahead of them from Group G.

The 29-year-old however added that A Seleccao can be proud of their efforts at the tournament.

“We created many opportunities but we could not finish them,” he said after their final match against Ghana.

“We knew we had to score three goals and were depending on the result of the Germany game and we couldn’t do that.

“We deserved more, but that’s football. We are leaving with our heads held high.”
